Karachi a city of lights was known as Krokola by ancient Greeks. According to the history, when this was found the fishermen and women they started fishing in this city and it was known by biggest sea port. Well above there is a woman who’s name was Mae Kolachi, she also starts fishing. She settled here and her family also began from here. There was a village got famous after her settlement and was known as Kolachi-jo-Goth. When trading started from Sindh through sea with Muscat and the Persian Gulf, Karachi gained much fame. There was small fort constructed for the protection of Karachi and a few cannons imported from Muscat. That fort had two main gateways: one known as Khara Dar which is on Sea side and the other known as the Meetha Dar which is on the side of Lyari River. Well now days these two gates were known as big areas of Karachi “Khara Dar” and “Meetha Dar”
Karachi had become a capital Pakistan just after the independence and large number of refugees migrated to Karachi from India. As a consequence, the demographics of the city also changed drastically. In 1958, the capital of Pakistan was shifted from Karachi to Islamabad and Karachi became the capital of Sindh and then large number of refugees migrated from India and embarked Karachi as the city of lights. Current modern Karachi is the result of efforts made by Mohajirs and their ancestors.

The total area of Karachi is around 3,527 sq. km which is almost four times larger than Hong Kong. It was being called the “City of Lights” before load-shedding and political acts. You can find people of many languages who are surviving and doing business is Karachi such as Mohajirs, Sindhi, Punjabi, Pashto, Balochi, Behari, Saraiki and many other people who settle in this big city.Karachi is a biggest city of Pakistan and the population of Karachi is more than 1.7 Million. Karachi is the source of business for Pakistan it have two commercial seaports 1st named as Bin Qasim and the 2nd named as Karachi Port. Karachi is the capital of Sindh and mostly business of import and export done through this seaport. Those cities that have the large number of building clusters Karachi ranked as 13th in that. Karachi is a center of big financial organizations such as Shipping, banking, Textile Industry, pharmaceuticals, Software, entertainment etc. It is the major city of higher education in the country.
It is also a pleasure for Karachi that the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born in Karachi and after his death he was buried here. The tomb of M. Ali Jinnah which is named as “Mazar-e-Quaid” was also took place in Karachi. Thousands of people and tourists visit his tomb and do Fate-ha on his grave.
